The enormous amount of new models of the cordless leaf blower is an example that manufacturers have discovered innovative, new methods to create various types of appliances for the household in electrical and battery-operated versions. All of the common uses for the traditional leaf blower can be accomplished with the cordless model. Battery-operated appliances like this perform as well as their electrical and gas-powered counterparts. There is also a considerable cost difference between gas and electric models. The electric blowers are, generally, the more economical option.

The purpose of a leaf blower is blowing lawn refuse and leaves into another area by using a forceful wind that is generated by the blower. The cordless models perform the same tasks as the traditional models. It is simply the mode of power the device uses that is the only difference between the two models. An electric leaf blower can be for blowing leaves, dirt, grass clippings, and other things that would be done with a gas model. Another difference with the electric version is that those that are corded will be more tedious to use. A user must move an extension cord that seems to be in the way, continually. With a battery powered leaf blower, a user must simply walk freely with the device until they are finished or until the battery must be recharged or replaced.

A battery powered leaf blower is friendlier to the environment than the gas powered versions. The gas powered version uses gasoline, and using gasoline to do a task as simple as relocating a little yard waste make little sense. Electric or battery-operated blowers are operated while plugged into an electricity source or the battery is charged before it is used. While a battery powered leaf blower still uses a source of energy that has an affect on the environment, the affect is not as profound as using the gas models. The gas powered blowers or yard vacuum use oil to lubricate engine parts. Oil can affect the environment when spilled or is introduced in other ways.

Earlier models of electrical variations of lawn maintenance equipment were not popular because there was not as much durability or power as there was with the traditional versions. Blowers that are operated with electricity have made much progress and many are as powerful as their gasoline counterparts are. For instance, the cordless leaf blower can blow air at nearly two hundred miles per hour, while the best of the gas blowers only drive the air at speeds of around one hundred seventy miles per hour, and the gasoline models are almost three times the price of the cordless models. This shows that the electric blowers can compete with their comparable gas blowers, even though there are some gas blowers that are superior to the electric blowers.

It might seem obvious that it takes a big battery to power this kind of equipment efficiently, however the batteries are no bigger than the battery in a cordless drill. Many versions of the electric leaf blower use an eighteen-volt battery that is charged in a few hours. They either slide into the battery port sideways or plug directly into the leaf blower. Backup or replacement batteries are available directly from the manufacturer for around twenty or thirty dollars. The batteries life after it is charged will depend on the amount of time the blower is in use however; most batteries can supply power for hours.

Manufacturers have succeeded in building an assortment of outdoor equipment in an electric version, and one of the most successful of these is the cordless leaf blower. Factors like durability and power are not an issue any longer. Many battery-powered models are even more productive than the gasoline powered type. A cordless blower is much easier on the environment. They do not include the use of petroleum products, which must be burned and can be spilled. Many barrels of oil could be conserved if more people used the electric version of their lawn equipment instead of the gas-powered models. The battery-operated versions are simple to use and will perform for hours before the battery must be recharged or replaced. The most interesting benefit of electric equipment is that it is typically sold at a fraction of the price that gas-operated blowers are sold.
